Is It Worth It? The Real Value of Living a High Performance Life
Does It Really Matter?
I’ve heard this question come up more than a few times.
Why does it really matter?
Why put in the effort to eat well, exercise, get good sleep, and stay consistent with recovery?
If we step back and look at the big picture… what’s the difference between living 75 years or 85?
When you consider the age of the universe—over 13 billion years—an extra 5 or 10 years doesn’t seem like much.
So again…
Does it really matter?
Wrong Scale
The issue isn’t the question—it’s the scale we’re using to answer it.
We’re comparing our lives to the universe.
But we don’t live on a cosmic scale—we live on a human one.
And on that scale, 10 years is a long time.
It’s thousands of days.
More time with the people you care about.
More chances to grow, to contribute, to show up better.
That’s not insignificant.
It’s Not About More Years
I don’t think this is really about adding years to your life.
It’s about adding life to your years.
When you take care of yourself—when you move, eat well, sleep, and recover—you feel it.
You think more clearly.
You have more energy.
You handle stress better.
You show up differently.
That’s what this is about.
Most People Wait Too Long
What I see a lot is people waiting until something forces a change.
Energy drops.
Health slips.
Something breaks down.
Then we react.
That’s not a great strategy.
High Performance Living is about getting ahead of it.
Taking ownership before you have to.
AOC in Real Life
This is where the AOC model shows up in a very real way.
Awareness – being honest about where you are
Ownership – taking responsibility for your habits
Commitment – doing the work consistently
Not when it’s convenient.
Not when you feel like it.
But because it matters.
A Better Question
Instead of asking:
“Does it matter if I live a few extra years?”
Try asking:
“How do I want to live the years I have?”
Because the habits you build today are shaping that answer right now.
Final Thought
High Performance isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about being intentional.
Day after day.
And if those choices give you a few more high-quality years along the way…
That’s not nothing.
That’s a pretty good return.
This is exactly the perspective I share in my book High Performance Living—focusing less on adding years to your life and more on improving the quality of the years you have.
